Azerbaijan discloses total number of landmines defused in liberated territories
"Today, a mobile meeting of the Working Group operating under the Interdepartmental Center of the Coordination Headquarters will take place. The Working group operating under the Coordination Headquarters holds regular mobile meetings. We visited the operational areas on our way to Lachin," Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov told reporters, Paralel.Az's Garabagh bureau reports.
He stated that they were familiarized with the progress of demining operations in the villages of Sarijali and Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil district.
ANAMA Chairman noted that so far, nearly 156,000 hectares of territory have been cleared of landmines and unexploded ordnance. Additionally, over 151,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected in these territories.
While discussing mine victims, V. Suleymanov said: "Unfortunately, the number of mine victims is increasing. Although the dynamics have decreased, incidents still occur. To date, 69 people have been killed as a result of these explosions, and a total of 377 people have fallen victims to the landmines."
V. Suleymanov stated that since relocation to Aghdam is planned by the end of the year, the primary goal is to clear those territories of mines and unexploded ordnance.
