Romania completes candidate registration for 2024 elections

 

Toni Grebla, president of Romania's Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), announced on Tuesday that 207,389 candidates will be running in the upcoming local elections, and 494 candidates will be competing in the European Parliament elections on June 9, Paralel.Az reports.

He said 18,025,324 voters are registered, with 18,955 polling stations in Romania and 915 abroad.

At a press conference in Iasi, Grebla said that among the mayoral candidates, 9,776 are running in rural areas and 1,610 in urban areas. Women make up 10.56 percent of the rural candidates and 12.36 percent of the urban candidates.

Out of the 494 candidates for the European Parliament, 167 are women, comprising 33.81 percent of the total.

According to AEP, 30 associations and foundations, including Expert Forum and Funky Citizens Association, have been accredited as observers for the elections.

This round of elections will select 3,186 mayors, local and county chiefs, and 33 European Parliament representatives, according to the AEP.
