Russia closely monitoring German military preparations against Moscow — diplomat
Russia is closely monitoring Germany’s military preparations directed against Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, Paralel.Az reports citing TASS.
The diplomat noted a statement by Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer that the German armed forces have five years to prepare for a potential invasion.
"I will reconfirm that we are registering a rise in militarist attitudes," the spokeswoman pointed out. "At the behest of the political leadership of contemporary Germany, the idea of a future military clash with Russia, as they put it, is again being instilled in the public consciousness. We are closely monitoring Germany’s military preparations, directed, above all, against our country," she added.
"France has just made such statements (the February 26 statement by French President Emmanuel Macron on the possibility of dispatching Western troops to Ukraine - TASS) which, it seems to me, should also be assessed from the point of view of Germany’s interests, to gather a general understanding - do they have a consolidated stance, are they consulting with each other? Or, in the heat of Russophobia will any statement do as long as it is directed against Russia?" she asked rhetorically.
The diplomat stressed that Russia will respond in a commensurate manner to Breuer’s statements and remarks as well as to any military actions by Germany directed against Moscow. "To all those actions that Germany has already practically taken, a suitable response will be given. While I would like to remind Mr. Breuer and his political cheerleaders that they are not the first ones who have dreamed about the German armed forces achieving wartime combat readiness. Every time this ended up in a catastrophe, for Germany, above all," the Russian diplomat pointed out.
