US defense secretary to visit South Korea

United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will travel to South Korea on Monday to discuss deterrence strategies in the face of North Korea's threats, South Korean officials told Yonhap, Paralel.Az reports.

Austin and South Korean Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup (right) are expected to develop plans for a "discussion-based table-top exercise" taking place in the US next month and tackling the scenario in which Pyongyang would deploy nuclear weapons.

Austin and Lee will examine cooperation with Japan and real-time missile data sharing among the three allies, the officials said. They are also likely to discuss military support for Ukraine as the US steps up its aid and provides battle tanks to Kyiv.
