Iran and Sri Lanka agreed
As Paralel.az reports, Iran and Sri Lanka have agreed to pay back oil arrears in previous years.
We are talking about oil products purchased in previous years. The Sri Lankan government has decided to supply tea to the country in exchange for a debt of $ 251 million. Due to US sanctions, it is impossible to transfer this amount to Iranian banks.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka itself is facing a severe shortage of currency. Since tea is considered a food product, it carries no risk of sanctions.
The Iranian side is also positive about buying tea instead of oil, as this reduces the flow of foreign exchange from the country.
