Armenian orientalist spoke about Iranian-Azerbaijani relations

According to Armenian media reports, Iran's relations with Azerbaijan have deteriorated significantly recently. It was noted that several factors contribute to this: "That is, the incident with the Iranian truck is not the cause, but the result." Orientalist Artem Tonoyan told Sputnik Armenia: “Earlier, Azerbaijani soldiers threw stones at an Iranian truck on the Gorus-Gafan highway in southern Armenia. At the same time, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry sent a note of protest to the Iranian ambassador, which says that Iranian trucks are entering Nagorno-Karabakh without the permission of official Baku.
Tonoyan named the visit of the Iranian ambassador to the border regions in Gegharkunik as one of the reasons for the aggravation of relations. The expert said that the problem of Iranian trucks has existed for several months: “But Baku has just decided to protest. The aggravation of relations is caused by a number of reasons. For example, the recent statement by the head of the Caucasus Muslims Office Allahshukur Pashazade and some signals from Turkey. During his visit to Shusha, Pashazade said that the "liberation of Azerbaijani territories" became possible, in particular, thanks to the fatwa of the Iranian leader. This statement by the religious leader was not unambiguously met in Azerbaijan and Turkey and provoked a reaction.
In the interview, it was said that the current Iranian-Azerbaijani tension is being intensified by Turkey in various ways and with the help of propaganda mechanisms. Tonoyan said that in response, the new Iranian government may take a tougher stance towards Baku and Ankara. He further said that from experience it is known that a tough line was taken against Azerbaijan when the conservatives came to power in Iran.
