OSCE will not observe parliamentary elections in Russia

The OSCE will not observe the parliamentary elections in Russia due to demands to limit the number of observers, RIA Novosti reported.
Matteo Mecacci, Director of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), said in a statement: "Unfortunately, we will not be able to observe the upcoming elections in Russia." Moscow's insistence on limiting the number of observers, the ability to send without any restrictions due to the pandemic, unfortunately made today's step inevitable. "
The statement said the OSCE and the OSCE PA were invited to observe the September 17-19 vote, but were later limited to 50 and 10 observers, respectively. The statement also says that Russia cited the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country as the reason for the restriction of observers.
