Azerbaijan, unlike Armenia, has real opportunities to become a partner of the United States, Andrei Korobkov, a professor of political sciences at the University of Tennessee, told Azeri Daily.
In addition, according to the political scientist, in contrast to former American leaders, President Trump is less influenced by lobbying circles.
The Armenian diaspora can no longer influence the White House, as before. Trump is a businessman, and he looks at everything through the prism of commercial expediency. Azerbaijan has strategic importance in the region, which means that Trump will not sacrifice relations with this country for the sake of the interests of Armenian lobbyists,' Korobkov concludes.
At the same time, he is sure that for now it is not worth waiting for serious changes in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, since neither side is ready to revise its position. And since they are mutually exclusive, it is difficult to count on any serious progress.
'Over the past few years there have been a number of military attempts to resolve such conflicts, but all of them have not led to a solution to the problem, and, moreover, have only aggravated the problem. Therefore, it is important that the parties to the Karabakh conflict do not allow the resumption of hostilities, since this will negatively affect the entire region,' warns the political scientist.
He does not advise to hope for Europe in this matter, believing that in connection with the crisis that has erupted there, Europeans are now occupied with their own problems, and it is hardly possible to expect from them any actions in the resolution of conflicts like the Karabakh conflict.
